Go On Vacation With Your Dog: plan for next summer

Last update: 05 November, 2018

When summer hits, you may be wondering if you should go on vacation with your dog or leave them at a friend’s or family member’s house, or possibly at a kennel.  It’s always recommended that you take your dog on vacation because their presence will make the trip even more special. Want to know why?

Why you should you take your dog with you on vacation

You won’t have to worry about them

Owners love their pets as if they were their children, and leaving them alone while you’re having a good time isn’t fun for anyone. You might constantly wonder if your pet is doing okay, or if something has happened to them, and how much you miss them.

Leaving them behind will only make you worry and feel anxious, and you won’t fully enjoy your trip. If you take your dog with you on vacation, you can avoid that entire situation. Your dog will be with you at all times and you’ll have peace of mind. After all, it’s becoming easier to find pet-friendly hotels and places to eat or shop that allow pets to enter.

Most likely you have already seen very funny pictures of other peoples’ pets on social media. Some have many followers due to their originality and all the funny poses they do with their pets. Can you imagine your pet as a social media star?

Also, going on vacation with your dog can become some of the most fun moments you’ll ever spend with them. Don’t think twice, because taking a vacation with your dog is a great idea.

You’ll make friends

Who can resist a cute puppy? It’s even tougher if you bring them to a tourists destination. It’s not common to see people on vacation with their dogs, so you’ll be very popular and everyone will want to meet your little canine friend.

You’ll end up having conversations with other tourists or even with locals. That could lead to some good times, meet new companions to go out going with, and even make new friends. Maybe you’ll even find the love of your life — who knows? It could happen.

Tips for going on vacation with your dog

If you consider all the advantages of going on vacation with your dog and decide to do it, you must take several things into consideration to have a good traveling experience. Here are some of them:

Vaccines

Even if you’re not traveling abroad, don’t forget that your dog has to have all the mandatory vaccines. They will also need a microchip and papers, just in case they are required by the airline or hotel.  Also, if you’re going to another country, the police might ask you for them.

Passport

If you’re leaving the country, your pet may need a passport to leave the country. You can ask your veterinary clinic to issue one. It doesn’t cost that much.

Their belongings

Remember to take everything that your dog will need on the trip. You’ll probably need to use a carrier, whether it being a road trip, train ride or a flight. Bringing their food and water dishes will help them handle the changes in routine and not get stressed out.

Their toys, favorite treats, and bed (if possible) are essentials that your dog will need while going on vacation with you. Animals tend to need routines, making the trip as close to being at home as possible. This is the best way to make the changes easier on him.

Leash and harness

A leash and harness are essential for going on vacation with your dog. Although you might be used to going without a leash where you live, in unknown places he can easily get lost while unleashed. Never let him go without one.

Choose a place they’ll like

Once you have decided that your dog will come with you, pick a place that they’ll like and enjoy. It could be a outdoor tourist destination, like a dog beach, or even a campground. No one knows your pet better than you do. You know where he’ll have fun the most. So, choose wisely!

If you have never dared to go on vacation with your dog, this first time will definitely be very special for both of you, as long as you plan ahead and make an effort. Have fun!
