What are the best pet-friendly beaches?
With the holidays just around the corner, it’s normal to think about where to enjoy your much-needed vacation. If you have a pet and you don’t want to leave them behind, the only option you have is to take them with you. But where do you go? Here is a list of some pet-friendly beaches in Spain:
1. Barcelona
There are a number of beaches in the city and surrounding areas that allow dogs. For example, on the beach at Llevant (since 2016, has had an area reserved for pets) or the canine beach of Pineda de Mar, that’s full of sand and allows access for dogs all year round.
Outside of Barcelona, you could go to Cala Vallcarca de Sitges, a natural exclusive beach that’s great for dogs. You also have the option of going to Les Salines en Cubelles, a sandy beach that has several stones to climb on.
2. Alicante
Within the Valencian Community, Alicante is one of the cities with the most pet-friendly beaches. You can go to Caleta dels Gossets (Santa Pola), the most highly recommended beach for dogs.
Dogs are also allowed to go to the beaches at Punta del Riu (Campello), Vilera del Xarco (Villajoyosa), Escollera Norte (Dénia), Mar y Montaña (Altea) and the coves at Moro and Punta Margalla (Torrevieja).
3. Malaga
With six pet-friendly beaches, Malaga is one of the best options to take your pet on the seaside during your holiday vacation. The best ones are at Torre del Mar (which has a dog play area) and Castilla, in Fuengirola, which has fine sand.
You can also go to the beaches of Arroyo Totalán, Piedra Paloma (Casares), El Pinillo and Ventura de Mar in Marbella, and the dog beach at Torrox that’s near a lighthouse.
4. Galicia
If your plan is to visit the beach in the northern region of Spain, you could go to Galicia as your next destination. Your dog is more than welcome to visit that beach! The most visited beach by the locals and tourists is the one at Cesantes y Chapela, in Redondela. It’s a perfect place for your dog.
Other pet-friendly beaches here are are O Espiño, Cunchiña (Cangas), O Castelete (Vilagarcia de Arousa), A Foz, and A Calzoa (Vigo).
5. Mallorca
Have you ever thought about going to Mallorca for the holidays? If so, the good news is that you can bring your pet along, whether it be a pug or a German Shepherd. The hotels are pet-friendly too so you’ll have no trouble finding beaches that will allow your dog to run freely.
In Post de Pollenca, you’ll find the Playa de Llenaire. Then in Santa Margarida, there’s the beach of Na Patana. In Calvia, there are the beaches of Gats and Des Marroig, in Palma de Mallorca the beach of Es Carnatge, and in Andratx the beach of Cala Blanca.
6. Canary Islands
For those people who have dogs and want to take them on holiday with them, in Gran Canaria they allowed on Los Cuervitos – Aguimes, or the beach of Bocabarranco. In La Palma, you can take your dog to the following beaches: Tazacorte, El Volcan, Los Guirres, and Nueva.
If you go to Tenerife, there are several coves that allow pets. These include Callao Las Bajas, El Socorro, El Puertito, and El Confital. And in Lanzarote, you can go to San Bartolome or to the beach of Coloradas in Yaiza.

Fist, avoid taking your dog during the hottest times of the day. Always keep your dog in the shade and make sure they have plenty of water to drink. Occasionally wet their head and don’t make them do any exercise or play if they don’t want to.
