The thing that stands out the most about the Turkish Angora is their hair. Their hair is soft, bushy, and brand new. Grooming your pet could involve anything from daily brushing to using special shampoos. But what is involved in caring for a Turkish Angora’s fur?

The Turkish Angora

This cat comes from the Turkish city that gives it its name, Ankara. Its main features are its long, soft fur which can seem like the finest wool. They tend to be black or white, although more varieties are appearing all the time. These days you can see them in greys, browns, or mixed colors.

The Turkish Angora is about medium-sized and, although they have short legs, they have long, svelte bodies, which give them their elegance. Some of them have different colored eyes that have no scientific importance, but the give them an extra touch of beauty.

If you want your Turkish Angora’s beauty to last, you need to look after their fur properly. To do so, you should follow these tips below:

Diet

They say that you are what you eat, and yes, your diet has a big influence on how we look. The same is true for pets. If you want your Turkish Angora’s fur to stay healthy, shiny, and silky, you need to feed them high-quality food with all the nutrients their body needs.

There are also foods available in pet shops which have added ingredients to help improve your pet’s fur. Although they can be a little bit more expensive, it’s worth it in the long term. This is not just because your cat will look better, but because they’ll be healthier as well.

Brushing

One of the main things about a Turkish Angora’s fur is that it falls out, and not just when the seasons change. As it has so much hair and it grows so quickly, the new hairs replace the old ones, and the cat is constantly shedding hair.

With some cats, you will need to brush them a couple of times during the week. However, with the Turkish Angora, you will need to brush them daily, perhaps even more than once a day. This will remove the dead hairs and strengthen the new ones. But don’t forget, you should never brush against their hair.

Brushing every day will also help prevent knots from forming. If knots do start to appear, and if there are lots of them, you will have no choice but to cut them out.

Shampoos

On many occasions on this site, we’ve said that human shampoo is no good for your pet. When your pet has special hair, like the Turkish Angora, this is especially true. There are specific products available for them, such as softeners and dirt repellents to keep their hair cleaner for a longer period of time.

Remember, although cats have their own personal hygiene routine, this doesn’t mean they don’t need a bath now and again. However, don’t bathe your cat more than the recommended amount, no more than roughly once a month.

Give them affection

You might be wondering what affection has to do with the Turkish Angora’s fur. Well, they say that happiness is reflected from the inside out. The way you feel in your heart will determine how you look to other people. A happy cat will be a beautiful cat.

A mistreated cat, one that hasn’t received affection, will be full of anger and not look beautiful at all.

You already knew that having a pet was a responsibility. But it also often means assuming responsibilities for the little details, like looking after their hair.
