Hansel and Gretel: A Charming Story

Last update: 06 September, 2019

Animals can teach us many lessons. They show love, faithfulness, and companionship without needing to use words to communicate. In this article, we’ll tell you all about Hansel and Gretel, two inseparable siblings, as well as some other special canine friendships.

Hansel and Gretel, two inseparable siblings

Dogs can form very strong bonds between themselves and with people, even despite maltreatment they’ve received or injustices they’ve suffered. Loyalty is one of the principal qualities of dogs, and they demonstrate it daily.

There are many stories of love among pets that have gone viral. For example, you may have read about a dog that kept watch over its master who had unexpectedly passed away. Or have you heard of cats that saved their owner from dying in a house fire? And, of course, there are also the dogs that grieve and cry when they lose their life companion.

Hansel and Gretel’s story

In this charming story, the main characters are two gorgeous dogs, Hansel and Gretel, that refuse to leave each other’s side for anything.

These dogs used to live on the streets of Ohio, United States, until they were rescued by an organization that’s dedicated to protecting animal rights. The organization is called the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s Office & Adoption Center.

The man in charge of the center, Rick Tunison, noticed the dogs in the street. He saw that they were having a tough time and that they urgently needed food and shelter. So, to be able to help them, he tried to get them to enter his car, giving them food so they would trust him. First, the male dog (with the lighter coat) went up to his car to enjoy the treat.

However, his sister, with the darker coat, was more hesitant about accepting help from a stranger. But when she saw that she risked being separated from her brother, she too jumped into the car. She curled up beside her brother, although she didn’t want to accept the food.

When they got to the shelter, the shelter workers put them in separate kennels. But they immediately started barking and howling, and even tried to break down the door of the kennel. Despite the reduced space, they were happy to share the ‘room’ as long as they were together.

The adoption of our heroes, Hansel and Gretel

Thanks to these special dogs’ close bond, the workers of the animal shelter decided to offer them together for adoption. It can be somewhat difficult to find suitable adoption homes for two dogs, since many families only want one animal. However, one woman was willing to take on the challenge and took both dogs home together.

Although she bought the dogs a bed each, they always share the same cushion (even though they barely fit).

The owner, Rachel Harris, changed their names to Hank and Gigi, and they now have a very happy life. Ms. Harris even created an Instagram account where she shares photos of their adventures (always together, of course). The siblings always watch out for each other, but they now also share their boundless love with their human ‘mother’.

Another moving story of two inseparable dogs

As in the case of Hansel and Gretel, there are also other examples that highlight animal loyalty. In another case, the main characters are Glenn (a 9-year-old Jack Russell) and Buzz (a 10-year-old Staffordshire Terrier). They got to know each other in the streets of Hartlepool, in England. Since then they’ve stuck together through thick and thin.

These extraordinary dogs even complement each other, since Glenn is blind and Buzz has become his seeing-eye dog. They are both in a shelter called Stray Aid, waiting for a family to adopt the two dogs together. Although it’s difficult to find a willing family, those in the shelter haven’t given up.

The only possibility of finding them a home for the last years of their life is if someone wants to adopt them together. Their future home must have a peaceful environment, preferably with older people who will accept them as they are.

Tanner and Blair, another inseparable friendship

You’ll love this last story featuring unconditional love between two dogs. Tanner is a Golden Retriever that was born blind and suffers from epilepsy. When he was just two years old, he had already lived in several different homes. However, he was never able to find a permanent home due to his condition.

When he eventually arrived at the animal hospital in Woodland West, Oklahoma, the veterinarians thought that there was no hope for him. They even considered euthanizing him.

However, everything changed when another Golden Retriever called Blair appeared in the clinic. This dog had lived on the streets and had several bullet wounds that were treatable.

When they first saw each other, it really was love at first sight, and the two dogs became inseparable. Without anyone showing him what to do, Blair grabbed Tanner’s leash and took him for a walk around the hospital.

Their new friendship produced some quite striking changes in the dogs. On the one hand, Tanner actually stopped having convulsions. And, on the other hand, Blair became less scared and nervous. A little while later, a family adopted the two friends together. They also met their new companion, a dog called Louie.
