Cleaning our dog’s teeth is something that we sometimes overlook. However, it is very important, because bacteria can accumulate in the mouth, creating infections that can cause serious ailments. Do you want to know how you can make an effective homemade toothpaste for your dog?
Making homemade toothpaste is easy
There are different ways to make toothpaste, and all of them are effective to fight against bacteria and tartar. Here are some suggestions:
Sodium bicarbonate (Baking soda), your best cleaning ally
Baking soda has always been a known ally for people’s oral hygiene, and it works for pets, too! Here’s a recipe for effective homemade toothpaste for dogs. You will need:
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of water or chicken broth, which will give a more pleasant taste
- A little bit of coconut oil
- Cinnamon for better breath
- Two drops of colloidal silver for killing bacteria
Mix all the ingredients, put them in a glass jar and store it in the fridge, especially if you have used chicken broth in the mixture. Smear the paste on your dog’s toothbrush and brush his teeth carefully.
Colloidal silver only
Colloidal silver is known for its anti-bacterial properties. It has proved to be very effective and therefore, using it as homemade toothpaste for your pet is a good idea. Just apply a few drops to the toothbrush and brush your pet’s teeth.
Coconut oil
To make this homemade toothpaste for dogs, use mint, baking soda, and coconut oil. Take a container, preferably glass, and mix two tablespoons of coconut oil, two tablespoons of baking soda and a dash of mint essential oil.
If you can’t find this oil, you can put some mint leaves in the mixture and let it sit overnight in order to aromatize the new homemade toothpaste for dogs.
Leave it in the fridge overnight to give it a good taste and allow the mint properties to soak in. Use it to clean your dog’s teeth, and remember to use it up it within five days.
As a great advantage, the mint will help prevent bad breath, while the oil will act as a ‘ glue ‘ so that all the products mix well, in addition to helping fight cavities.
