A few months ago we saw a video of a small dog doing yoga with his owner. It was a real pleasure to watch.  This is something that you could do at home with your dog. We are going to explain how.

  • First, massage his head very gently, focusing on the animal’s temples. Use circular motions to ease tension.
  • Then, move to his ears. They are very sensitive, and even if he doesn’t like it that much at the beginning, he will be overcome by total calmness at the end. There is nothing better than massage therapy.
  • Go over his head with the palm of your hand from top to bottom. It will remind him of his mother’s tongue when he was a puppy.
  • Stretch his legs by grabbing them from the bottom and gently moving his joints.
  • Hold him by his hips and raise his back legs to help him stretch and relax his spine.

Swimming

Summer bores dogs because of the heat and being home alone for most of the day. In order to fix this problem and help him refresh and relax, we recommend a great technique – swimming.

Regardless of your pet’s size, your animal can enjoy some fun swimming classes. They originated in Los Angeles and are becoming very popular in Europe. The owners also interact with the animals in the pool. The animals will get exhausted, and therefore, be thoroughly relaxed.

Massages

Massages also help our dogs relax. However, they need to be given correctly in order to achieve our goal of relaxation.

It is recommended to start with the head, go down to the neck, the front paws, the stomach, and finally the back paws. Move his joints.

Long nature walks

Taking a peaceful walk outdoors with our pet is without a doubt one of the best techniques to relax him. During the walk, stop and sit down by the sea, mountain, or park with your dog. Sit together in silence. Try to find the quietest place possible.

This will relax both of your minds and help you reduce stress and nerves.

Music

Music is relaxing for pets. So listening to a bit of classical music at home with your pet will be an unforgettable experience for both of you.

Sit in the living room and put on some music that’s loud enough to hear but not bothersome. Close your eyes and relax. Even if your dog doesn’t do the same at first, he will copy you when he sees you so relaxed and when the music affects him.

As you can see, there are many things that you can do at home to alleviate your dog’s tension and stress. You only have to do your bit and learn these techniques. Not only will you notice that your dog is calmer, but that your bond with him is stronger, too.
